Long Description
Avery Dennisonβ’ FT 8392 is a high-performance, double-coated polyester tape developed for specialized foam bonding applications, particularly in automotive and industrial environments. With a differential adhesive system, it features a modified acrylic adhesive on the laminating side for excellent bonding to foams and high/medium surface energy materials, and a high shear rubber adhesive on the mounting side for reliable adhesion to low surface energy (LSE) substrates.
This 3.6 mil construction offers outstanding dimensional stability, clean converting, and superior long-term performance, even under elevated temperatures. Both adhesives are enhanced with a biocide additive to resist mold growth, making FT 8392 especially suitable for interior automotive applications involving fabric, foam, or plastic bonding.
Key Features
Differential Adhesive Design:
Laminating Side: Modified acrylic adhesive designed for foam bonding, offering excellent adhesion to high and medium surface energy materials.
Mounting Side: Rubber-based adhesive with high shear strength, optimized for low surface energy materials like polypropylene and ABS.
Polyester Film Carrier: Thin yet durable PET film offers dimensional stability and supports precise die-cutting for manufacturing efficiency.
Biocide Protection: Both adhesive layers contain a biocide to inhibit mold growth, adding durability in moist or enclosed environments.
Clean Handling & Conversion: Super calendered kraft liner ensures clean die-cutting and easy processing during high-speed converting.
Benefits
Reliable Foam Bonding: Excels in bonding polyurethane and other foams to a wide range of substrates.
LSE Surface Compatibility: Strong initial tack and long-term adhesion to plastics like PP, PE, and ABS.
Shear Stability at Elevated Temps: Maintains performance under load in high-temperature environments, such as automotive interiors.
Contamination-Resistant: Biocide formulation protects against microbial degradation.
Versatile Industrial Use: Suited for general assembly, appliance, automotive, and interior bonding tasks requiring strength and resilience.
Typical Applications
Foam bonding in automotive interiors
Fabric or felt lamination to LSE plastic parts
Interior mounting of trim or insulation panels
General industrial assembly involving LSE surfaces
Gasket or seal attachment in enclosed areas

Application Techniques
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of grease, oil, or dust.
Optimal adhesion is achieved by applying firm pressure and allowing adequate dwell time.
Adhesion performance may vary depending on surface type, application pressure, and environmental factors (temperature, humidity).
Storage and Shelf Life
Shelf Life: Up to 2 years when stored at 64β72 Β°F (18β22 Β°C) and 30β70% relative humidity, in original packaging and away from direct sunlight.
