Long Description

Avery Dennisonβ„’ FT 9220 is a high-performance double-coated pressure-sensitive adhesive transfer tape designed for demanding bonding applications across a wide range of substrates and environments. Engineered with a cross-linked, modified acrylic adhesive and supported by a low-density non-woven carrier, FT 9220 offers a balanced combination of strength, durability, and ease of handling, making it ideal for industrial, automotive, and display applications.

Key Features

High Initial Tack: FT 9220 delivers immediate adhesion upon contact, allowing for quick, secure bonding in high-speed production environments.

Controlled Adhesive Thickness: The precisely controlled adhesive thickness ensures consistent performance, even under varying conditions and substrate types.

Cross-Linked Modified Acrylic Adhesive: Provides superior long-term performance with excellent resistance to environmental factors such as solvents, chemicals, plasticizers, moisture, UV light, and extreme temperatures.

Thick, Easy Release Liner: The white glassine liner enables smooth die-cutting, clean removal, and efficient converting processes.

Low-Density Non-Woven Carrier: Enhances conformability and maintains stability across complex or uneven surfaces.

Benefits

Instant Adhesion: Delivers strong initial tack for immediate holding power on contact surfaces.

Reliable Application Performance: Ensures uniform adhesive behavior across various surfaces and conditions.

Chemical and Environmental Resistance: Maintains bond integrity even when exposed to harsh chemicals, moisture, plasticizers, and UV exposure.

User-Friendly Handling: Facilitates easy removal at the point of display and enhances die-cutting accuracy.

Versatile Conformability: Easily adapts to curves, textured surfaces, or irregular geometries without compromising adhesion strength.

Construction Overview

Liner: White glassine (thickness: 100 Β΅m / 0.10 mm)

Adhesive: Modified acrylic adhesive (on both sides of carrier)

Carrier: Low-density non-woven

Total Caliper (with liner): 250 Β΅m / 0.25 mm

Adhesive Performance (Typical Values)

Peel Adhesion (ASTM D3330 – 180Β° @ Room Temp, 20 min dwell):

Stainless Steel: 855–900 N/m

Polycarbonate: 860–940 N/m

Painted Steel: 825–850 N/m

Rigid Polypropylene: 880–910 N/m

Loop Tack (ASTM D6195):

Stainless Steel (Initial): 1070 N/m

Static Shear (ASTM D3654):

Stainless Steel (1”², 1000g): >9000 minutes (excellent shear strength)

Temperature Resistance

Minimum Application Temperature: 50 Β°F (10 Β°C)

Service Temperature Range: -40 Β°F to 266 Β°F (-40 Β°C to 130 Β°C)

Application Techniques

For optimal results, the bonding surface must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as oil or dust. Performance varies depending on application pressure, dwell time, and the type of substrate. For best adhesion, ensure adequate adhesive-to-surface contact during application.

Storage and Shelf Life

FT 9220 has a shelf life of up to two years when stored in original packaging at 64–72 Β°F (18–22 Β°C) and 30–70% relative humidity, away from direct sunlight.
